Bhubaneswar: The prevailing cold wave in Odisha is expected to intensify during the next coming days with a warning sounded for 10 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions may continue in isolated pockets in Sundargarh Angul and Jharsuguda districts on December 8-9. There is also a warning of dense fog for the districts of Sundargarh and Kandhamal.
On December 10-11, isolated pockets in Sundargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Sonepur and Cuttack may experience biting cold. The mercury may touch 10-11°C in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar respectively in these two days amid the cold wave conditions. Phulbani is likely to record the lowest minimum temperature of 5°C, followed by Jharsuguda, Bhawanipatna and Rourkela at 7°C each, Angul and Koraput at 8°C each, Sundargarh, Sonepur, Nabaranpur and Keonjhar at 9°C each, and Balangir and Boudh at 10°C each.
On Monday morning, G Udayagiri remained the coldest place in the state for the second day at 4.3°C. Semiliguda in Koraput was close second at 4.6°C followed by Phulbani in Kandhamal at 7.2°C. The minimum temperature stood at 7.4°C in Jharsuguda, while it was 7.5°C in Daringbadi, 7.6°C in Rourkela, 8°C at Chiplima, 8.8°C in Angul, 8.9°C at Kirei, 9°C in Bhawanipatna and 10°C in Nabarangpur.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 12.1°C , 3.8 degrees below normal, while the mercury stood at 12.4°C in Cuttack.
