Mumbai: After a lot of hullabaloo, Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ recorded a big opening on its release day and is still going strong in theatres.
However, Noreen, widow of slain Pakistani cop Chaudhary Aslam, is unhappy with the description of her husband’s character, played by Sanjay Dutt, and is planning legal action against the makers.
On a podcast by Dialogue Pakistan, Noreen shared that her husband was a great fan of Dutt ever since he watched the movie ‘Khalnayak’ in the 1990s.
Noreen said she believed that Sanjay would do justice to her husband’s character in the film, but in the film’s trailer, Aslam’s character was described as the offspring of the devil and a djinn, which left her disappointed.
“We are Muslims, and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but his mother, who was a simple, honest woman. If I see my husband being portrayed wrongly or any propaganda against him in the film, I will definitely take all the legal steps I can. It is strange that Indian filmmakers find no other subjects but to malign Pakistan,” Noreen said.
Aslam joined Sind Police in the 1980s as an ASI. He was appointed to lead the Lyari Task Force in the crackdown on gangs in Karachi in the 2000s.
After surviving an attack from the Taliban in 2011, Aslam was assassinated by the Taliban’s Pakistani faction in 2014.
Helmed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy in Lyari. It also features Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan in lead roles.
Despite mixed reviews, the film collected Rs 99 crore net in India in its opening weekend.
Earlier, parents of late Major Mohit Sharma had filed a petition in the court seeking a ban on ‘Dhurandhar’, alleging that the film was made on their son’s story without their consent.
However, the Delhi Hight Court disposed of the petition while directing the CBFC to consult with the Indian Army before giving a clearance to the film.
