Rain on New Year brought down the mercury in Odisha with Keonjhar being the only place to experience below 10 degree Celsius temperature in the last 24 hours.
“Temperature increased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at most places. Keonjhar was the coldest at 9.6 degree Celsius,” Duty Officer of IMD regional centre, Bhubaneswar, Charan Behera said.
Several places witnesses rain on Wednesday with Chandbali leading the table with 4.8 mm rainfall, followed by Koraput (3.2 mm), Paradip (1.9 mm), Puri (1.5 mm) and Gopalpur (0.6 mm).
The IMD had earlier issued heavy rainfall warning for Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda on Thursday.
Thunderstorm with lightning and hail is likely to occur at one or two places in Deogarh, Sonepur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Angul, Sundargarh, Kenojhar and Jharsuguda between 8.30 am of January 2 and 8.30 am of January 3. From 8.30 am of January 3 till 8.30 am of January 4, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Angul districts, it added.
While the rain forecast is for the next two days, Behera said that Odisha will again be in the grip of cold wave and witness a drop in temperature from January 5 once the clouds disappear.
