Bhubaneswar: After a cold wave swept the state for a week, nights have been slightly less cold for the last three days in Odisha with most parts recording minimum temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius.

But the cold wave is set to return with the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) predicting a gradual dip in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius from Friday.

The MeT office has also issued Yellow warning for dense fog at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal till 8.30 am on Wednesday (December 29). One or two places in Coastal and South Interior Odisha may also experience shallow to moderate fog.

Dense fog is also likely to engulf one or two places in North Odisha on December 31 morning and one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar, the following morning.

The state is also likely to experience light to moderate rain over the next three days due to a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood to north Telangana across Vidarbha. A cyclonic circulation also lies over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, the IMD said.

It has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at a few places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bargarh and at one or two places in the rest districts of North Odisha and South Coastal Odisha till 8.30 am on Wednesday.

Dec 29 (8.30 am) to Dec 30 (8.30 am)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places over the districts of north interior Odisha and at a few places over Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda and north coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Dec 30 (8.30 am) to Dec 31 (8.30 am)
