New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Education, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Sanjay Dhotre on Tuesday released a commemorative postage stamp on 100 years of first visit of Mahatma Gandhi to Odisha.
Addressing a function organised on the occasion on digital mode at Swaraj Ashram, Cuttack, Dhotre said the postage stamp to commemorate the important event is a part of celebration of “Ázaadi ka Amrut Mahotsava”. The Department of Posts will commemorate more such significant events of India’s freedom struggle in future, he added.
He further said under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, launched by the Centre, various states and UTs are paired with each other like Maharashtra & Odisha, Goa & Jharkhand, Delhi & Sikkim and so on. This is done so that they can exchange, learn and appreciate each other’s culture, language, literature, dance art and many other aspects.
Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, Minister of Odia Language, Tourism & Culture Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi and senior officers of Department of Posts attended the function.
The first day cover of the stamp portrays the Swaraj Ashram at Cuttack, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his first visit to Odisha on March 23, 1921.
The stamp would be available for sale at 76 Philatelic Bureaux situated in every corner of the country and can be ordered online via e-post office at https://www.epostoffice.gov.in/.
