The police seized cash to the tune of Rs 26.48 lakh, a motorcycle, one knife, six mobile phones and other items used in the crime.

Briefing media persons regarding the details of the case, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said, “Nalinikanta Tripathy, an employee of Durga Construction Pvt. Ltd., had lodged a written complaint with police on March 31. He had alleged that two unknown miscreants had attacked him with knife and snatched away a bag containing Rs 27 lakh cash while he was coming from Allahabad Bank’s Jagatpur branch in Cuttack, after encasing three cheques of State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC and Allahabad Bank. However, during course of investigation, the statement of the complainant and his involvement was felt to be suspicious. It was also found that his injuries were self-inflicted.”

Further interrogation and investigation revealed that Tripathy had himself planned the entire incident, Singh added.
