Ganjam: In the wake of sudden spike in COVID-19 cases on Friday night, the Ganjam district administration has announced a complete shutdown in Buguda block of the district for 10 days from Tuesday. Ganjam reported another 17 positive coronavirus cases on Friday.
A meeting was convened by Block Development Officer (BDO) Tanmaya Patra at Buguda Public Works Department’s post office to take immediate measures after new coronavirus cases were found. The meeting, which also involved the police force and fire department, decided to impose complete shutdown till July 15 (Wednesday).

However, of the 17 positive cases, 16 were the police officials from Buguda police station, while one woman was from Gaudiaborda panchayat.
Tehsildar Sangram Keshari Jena, Buguda Police Station IIC Chittaranjan Behera, Buguda Community Health Centre and Medical Officer Subhashish Panigrahi were also present in the meeting.
The administration has decided to implement the shutdown from Tuesday giving a day’s (Monday) time to people to procure essential commodities.
During the shutdown, the district administration will form 40 teams comprising health officials to conduct a door-to-door survey to identify persons suffering from cold, cough, fever and other flu-like symptoms.
If anyone is found with even mild symptoms, the person will be shifted to NAC COVID Care Home for health check-ups. Swab tests will be done. If the test result is found positive, he/she will be sent to COVID Hospital for further treatment.
Barricades will be constructed at the beginning of each block entrance.
Except for medicine stores and vegetable shops, all other shops will be closed. Legal action will be initiated against shutdown violators. All public and vehicular movements have been strictly prohibited in the three villages.
