Congress Moves Privilege Notice Against Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik For ‘Misleading’ Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Congress moved a breach of privilege notice on Wednesday against Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera alleging that they misled the Assembly over probe into Naba Kishore Das’ murder.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra in a notice to the Assembly secretary said that the House has been misled over the appointment of former High Court Judge Justice J P Das for monitoring the investigation in the murder case.

The senior lawmaker told reporters that the Minister of State (MoS) for Home representing the Chief Minister had given a statement in the Assembly that Justice J P Das has been nominated by the High Court to monitor the investigation of in Naba Das murder.

The Chief Minister, who is in charge of Home department, though the MoS has deliberately misled the House by giving false information, Mishra alleged, and claimed that the statement of court-monitored probe is not correct.

The order has been passed from administrative level, not court, the Congress leader alleged.

It is absolutely false information which has been used to mislead the House and it violates the privilege of the House, Mishra claimed, adding that as the Minister of State for Home has given the statement on behalf of the Chief Minister, it is considered as that of the CM.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha said the notice moved by Mishra is being analysed.
