Congress To Oppose Odisha Govt Move To Demolish Club Buildings In Bhubaneswar: MLA Suresh Routray
Bhubaneswar: Veteran Congress leader and MLA Suresh Routray on Tuesday lashed out at Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government accusing it of trying to demolish buildings of several old clubs and cultural organisations in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to reporters in Bhubaneswar, the Jatni MLA warned that any move to demolish club buildings in Old Town area of the capital city would be vehemently opposed and the government would be responsible for any consequence.
Stating that notices have been issued for pulling down the buildings of Old Town Club (Binapani Pathagar) and Kegar Gouri Club, Routray said Binapani Pathagar happens to be 131-year-old institution.
Similarly, Kedar Gouri Club is also very old and closely linked with the rich culture of the city. Therefore, any move to cause any damage to these clubs in the name of development would be opposed tooth and nail, the Congress leader said, giving a stern warning to the state government.
Accusing the state government of misappropriating taxpayers’ money in the name of carrying out development, the Congress MLA said a club building in old town area was demolished some time back with a promise of reconstruction. However, no step has so far been taken to build any new structure, he claimed.
On the upcoming elections, Rourtay claimed that Congress would bounce back as the people of the state are fed up with rampant corruption during the BJD rule.
