Raipur: The man accused in murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, Suresh Chandrakar—a distant relative of the journalist and a contractor—was arrested in Hyderabad on Sunday night, reports claimed. Mukesh’s body was found in a septic tank in Chhattisgarh last week.
The nabbed accused is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder. He had been absconding since the murder came to light. Reports quoting police sources claimed Suresh was hiding at his driver’s home in Hyderabad. Police reviewed footage from 200 CCTVs and traced nearly 300 mobile numbers to trace down Suresh, reported the NDTV.
Cops had also frozen four bank accounts linked to Suresh Chandrakar and an illegally built yard owned by him was demolished.
Suresh Chandrakar’s wife was also taken into custody in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district. Both are being questioned, officials claimed. Besides, three more, including two of victim’s relatives, had been arrested in the case. While his cousin, Ritesh Chandrakar, was arrested from Raipur airport on Saturday, Mahendra Ramteke, a supervisor, and Dinesh Chandrakar, another relative of the victim, were taken into custody from Bijapur, claimed the NDTV report.

Mukesh had recently conducted an investigation against contractor Suresh Chandrakar. He reportedly exposed alleged irregularities in a Rs 120-crore road construction project in Bastar, which prompted the government to initiate an inquiry into the contractor’s activities.
The autopsy report of the journalist revealed the nature of the grisly murder. The victim had 15 fractures on his head, a broken neck and his heart ripped out, reported the India Today. Doctors also detected four pieces of liver. The doctors who conducted the autopsy told India Today that they had not seen such a case in their 12-year-old careers.
