Cuttack: A Revenue Inspector (RI) of Mahalei Revenue Circle at Telenpalli under Khaprakhol tehsil in Odisha’s Balangir was dismissed from service on Tuesday following his conviction by Vigilance court in a bribery case.

According to Odisha Vigilance Directorate, Revenue Inspector Satyanarayan Kumura was convicted by Special Judge Vigilance, Balangir, on March 14 based on a chargesheet filed under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d)/7 of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988. He was accused and later convicted for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for submitting land genealogy enquiry report.

The former RI was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed on him under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In case of default of payment of the fine Kumra will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for another three months.

The Special Judge court also sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 for the offence under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988. In case of default of payment of fine, he will have to spend two more months in jail.

The RI was dismissed from government service by competent authority as per the provision of Odisha Civil Service (CCA) Rules, 1962, the directorate added.
