Copter Crash: Insurance Claims Of Gen Rawat, Brig Lidder Settled In Record Time
New Delhi: Two government insurance companies have settled the claims of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder and seven other Army personnel, who were among 13 killed in a horrific helicopter crash last week, in record time.
The Mi-17V5 Army chopper crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on December 8 in one of the biggest accidents in India involving senior military officers. CDS Rawat’s wife Madhulika Patkar was among those who lost their lives.

According to PTI, United India Insurance settled personal accident insurance claim of Gen Rawat and seven other defence personnel in a record 30 minutes, while New India Assurance cleared Brig Lidder’s claim within an hour of receiving claim intimation from his bank.

“On December 10, we received primary information from the bank that these account holders have been martyred in the accident. As soon as the information came, we settled the claim amount with the minimum required paper that had come to us from the bank,” PTI quoted United Insurance chairperson and managing director Satyajit Tripathy as saying.
Tripathy informed that insurance amount given to Indian Army officials is Rs 30 lakh while Indian Air Force officials are given Rs 40 lakh.
All defence personnel have group personal accident insurance cover with their salary account.
