Kochi: A controversial song from the action thriller ‘Kantara’ has been prohibited from being screened in theatres, OTT and digital streaming platforms.
A Kerala court issued an interim injunction prohibiting the use of the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ citing prima facie violation of the Copyright Act, India Today reported.
First Additional District Court Judge KE Salih directed that ‘due credit’ be given to the music band Thaikkudam Bridge and Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Company Ltd, which hold copyright of the Navarasam track that was adapted for Varaha Roopam in the 2022 Rishab Shetty movie.
The makers of ‘Kantara’ were taken to court last year, shortly after the release of ‘Kantara’ on September 30. The complaint claimed that Varaha Roopam had violated laws by copying tracks from Navarasam.
The court, while giving its verdict on allegations of plagiarism against Varaha Roopam, that the music director of the track had himself admitted to taking ‘inspiration’ from Thaikkudam Bridge’s Navarasam (2015) .
The order was issued after a complaint was filed alleging that the investigation was not progressing in the right direction.
