Coromandel Accident Toll Goes Up To 50; Rly Minister & Odisha CM To Visit Spot Tomorrow
Bhubaneswar: The toll in the collision between two Express trains near Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday evening went up to 50 as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the rescue operation.
The chief minister went to the control room set up at the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) following the accident and personally reviewed the rescue operation.
“I have just been reviewing the situation about this truly tragic railway accident. I will be flying there early tomorrow morning,” he said.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will also fly from Goa to the accident spot on Saturday.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have expressed their grief over the incident.
According to the latest report, 10-12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near the station at around 7.15 pm and the derailed coaches fell on opposite track. The Yeswanthpur-Howrah Express came on the same track where the coaches had fallen and ploughed into those.
