Ganjam: There has been a spike COVID-19 cases in Odisha with migrants returning home and Ganjam has been the worst affected of the 30 districts with the total crossing the 500-mark following detection of 22 new patients on Thursday.
Ganjam has so far reported 521 cases, which accounts for 21 per cent of the total patients in the state.
With strict restriction in place, Ganjam was able to keep the virus at bay all of April. Following the huge influx of migrants, the district reported its first coronavirus case on May 2 when two Surat returnees tested positive for the virus.
Ganjam also has the highest recovery rate with 354 patients having been cured of the disease so far.
The virus has claimed three lives in the district.
