Cuttack: In view of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Odisha Police on Tuesday suspended the use of breath analyser for testing drunk driving for the time being.
In a letter to district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay has directed to immediately stop the breath-analyser test in accordance with the health guidelines of the state government.
There will be no such test in the state till further orders, he added.
To bring down the number of road accidents due to rash driving under the influence of alcohol, the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019, has a mandatory provision for the breath-analyser test.
