Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) formed three special teams on Saturday to ensure strict adherence to the Odisha government guidelines to check the spread of coronavirus in the state.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said the special teams have been constituted for three zones. Each team will be led by a BMC additional commissioner along with two enforcement officials of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).

“The teams, accompanied by the police, will keep an eye on illegal hoarding of masks and sanitizers and take action against hoarders. Besides, they will also oversee the cleaning of waste in the city at regular intervals,” he added.

Chaudhary, however, added that no instruction has been given to stop marriages and receptions. ‘The marriage functions will be held as usual. But we have asked the marriage parties to ensure that there are no large gatherings,” he said.

Also, there has been no instruction from the government so far to close shopping malls, he said.

Referring to the precautionary measures against the deadly virus, the commissioner said BDA and BMC staff were directed not to spit at public places. They will be fined Rs 500 for violating the directive, he added.
