Counterfeit Currency Racket Busted In Odisha’s Kalahandi, 3 Apprehended

Bhawanipatna: Police in Odisha’s Kalahandi busted a fake currency racket with the arrest three persons from a village under Kegaon police limits on Friday.

The arrested have been identified as Kana Mahapatra of Borda village, Mandu Chandan of Rajnapur village, and Santosh Bhoi of Kusumasil village. A printing machine, high-quality counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 7,300, bundles of Rs 500 fake currency notes paper cutters, and printing papers, besides three mobile phones, have been seized from their possession

According to sources, the gang of three allegedly ran a fake currency printing unit and circulated them in the area. They used the fake currency notes to make purchases at the Borda market. Locals found their behaviour suspicious and alerted police, which then arrived at the spot and detained the trio. The interrogation revealed that the accused printed the counterfeit notes at Bhoi’s house, Borda police outpost officer Chandrahasya Sahu said.

A case has been filed at Kegaon police station and further investigation is underway to ascertain involvement of more people in the racket, he added.
