Pipili: A couple was found hanging from a tree near Routpada village under Pipili police limits in Puri district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Naba Prusty (27) of Haridaspur village and Soudamini Behera, a native of Routpada.
Police and a team of scientific experts reached the spot and started investigation.
According to locals, they might have taken the extreme step since both family members had been opposing their relationship since long.
Police, however, suspect that they could have been murdered and later hanged from the tree with a rope to pass it off as a case of suicide. There are injury marks on the girl’s neck.
