Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at a courier service centre located in Jayadev Vihar area of Bhubaneswar in the early hours on Wednesday.
According to preliminary information, the fire was noticed by locals in the wee hours. After receiving the information, three fire service teams rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
The blaze was brought under control after an hour-long operation conducted by the firefighters. No one was reported to have been hurt in the incident.
Sources said the fire caused extensive damage to the goods stored inside the centre. The blaze gutted parcels containing medicines, electronic items, rakhis and other consignments that were meant to be dispatched to various places. Most of the items stored in the courier office were completely reduced to ashes.
While the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electric short circuit, the exact reason is yet to be ascertained.
