Boudh: A Vigilance court has sentenced a former officer of MARKFED in Odisha’s Boudh to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for three years in a corruption case.
The Vigilance had arrested Bhuban Mohan Dash, former in-charge area manager of Odisha State Cooperative Marketing Federation (MARKFED), Boudh for allegedly misappropriating Rs 9.66 lakh in procurement of niger and turmeric seeds.
The state government had dismissed Dash from service after his arrest. The Vigilance filed the charge sheet in the court of Special Judge Vigilance, Phulbani.
After hearing the case, the Special Judge sentenced Dash to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him for the offence under Section 409 of IPC. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 6 months, the court ruled.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 4 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, Dash has to undergo further RI for 6 months. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
