Court Sentences Man To Life Imprisonment For Wife’s Murder In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: The District and Sessions Court in Odisha’s Ganjam on Tuesday convicted a man in the case of murdering his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
As per the case, the convict, Manoj Dalai of Bainsi village under Jarda police limits in the district, had married Manju against the will of their parents. After marriage, they were staying in a rented house in Nua Khajuria Panda Colony under Gosaninuagaon police station in Berhampur.
Though the couple had a baby two years after the marriage, they were not accepted by Manju’s parents when they went to meet them. Following this, Manoj used to torture Manju. She had filed a police complaint, but the matter was amicably settled due to intervention of the police in 2019.
On August 15 same year, Manoj took an unconscious Manju to a hospital. But the doctors declared her brought dead and informed Gosaninuagaon police station. The police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
The autopsy report stated that Manju was strangled to death about 18 hours before she was admitted to the hospital. This led the police to register a murder case and arrested Manoj.
After hearing the case and deposition of the witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Rupashree Chowdhury convicted Manoj and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
