Sundargarh: A Special Vigilance Court has sentenced a former head clerk in tehsil office to rigorous imprisonment for 4 years in a bribe case in of Odisha’s Sundargarh.
The Vigilance has arrested Md Sabir Hussain, former head clerk in the office of tehsildar at Balisankara in the district while taking bribe for processing a mutation case regarding transfer of ownership of land. Following investigation, the Vigilance has submitted the chargesheet in the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.
The court convicted Hussain in the case under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 4 years and imposed a fine. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 2 months.
The Court also sentenced the retired head clerk to undergo RI for 3 years and imposed fine for the offence under Section 7 PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 2 months more. Both the sentences will run concurrently. The convict was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Hussain.
