New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has slashed the price of RT-PCR tests for detecting COVID-19 to Rs 800 now, NDTV reported.
The test is being conducted free of cost in the capital’s government hospitals and costs Rs 2400 in private laboratories.
“I have directed that the rates of RT-PCR tests be reduced in Delhi. Whereas tests are being conducted free of cost in government establishments, this (price cut) will help those who get their tests done in private labs,” Kejriwal tweeted.
The Supreme Court is hearing a plea seeking directions to cap the cost at Rs 400 across the country.
The plea claims that different rates are being charged across the country whereas the cost of the test actually works out to be Rs 200. It said the cost of the test was fixed between Rs 900 and Rs 2,800 by various state governments and Union Territories, the report added.
