New Delhi: With an overnight surge of 88,600 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally inched closer to the 60-lakh mark to stand at 59,92,532 on Sunday.
Also, 1,124 people across the country succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday. The fresh deaths took the toll to 94,503.
The country has been reporting more than 1,000 daily deaths for over a month now. India’s COVID-19 fatality rate, however, has dropped to 1.58 per cent.
Besides, 82.46 per cent (49,41,627) people have recovered from the infection so far with 92,043 being discharged on Saturday. Another 15.96 per cent (9,56,402) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,12,57,836 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 9,87,861 on Saturday.
