He urged people to cooperate with police and not use vehicle for purchasing essential items.
The police commissioner had also warned people of strict action if found using vehicles for shopping. This decision was taken to maintain social distancing to check spread of the novel coronavirus after the number of positive cases in Odisha spiked on Sunday to 39 with 33 cases being reported from the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also said that there will be zero tolerance on violation of social distancing. “Any violation of social distancing will attract criminal action,” he added.
