COVID-19 Reinfection Surfaces In Odisha: ILS Director

Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) on Friday said that cases of COVID-19 reinfection have surfaced in Odisha.

ILS Director Ajay Parida informed that during the sample testing of some COVID-19 recovered patients at the institute’s laboratory, 3-4 of them were found to be reinfected with the disease. However, the rate of re-infection is very low, he added.

He stated that a study is underway to ascertain the causes of reinfection.

Parida cautioned that there is a strong possibility of a second COVID-19 wave in the state during winter and therefore people have to be extremely cautious to keep the disease at bay by strictly adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines.

On the fall in new cases in Odisha, the ILS director said the present average of daily new cases is 1500. “It was apprehended that there would be a rise in new cases during the puja festivity. Thankfully, it has not happened as people have become more cautious,” he said.
