COVID-19 Risk 94% Lower Post Vaccination; Only 6% At Risk Of ICU Admission

New Delhi: NITI Aayog member VK Paul on Friday said that COVID-19 vaccination gives at least 94 per cent protection from the disease, with the chances of hospitalization being reduced by 75-80 per cent.

The possibility of needing oxygen support is around 8 per cent and risk of getting admitted in ICU is only 6 per cent for vaccinated people, he stated, citing studies on efficiency of vaccine among healthcare workers.

The Union Health Ministry stated that there has been an 85 per cent drop in COVID-19 cases since the peak of the second wave on May 7. Active cases in the country are currently 7.98 lakh.

Luv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary of Health Ministry, said that there has been a significant increase in the recovery rate since May 3. Currently, it is 96 per cent.

He also calmed fears about children getting more affected in a possible third wave.

“It may not be true that children will be disproportionately affected in the third wave as serosurvey shows seropositivity was almost equal in all age groups. But the government is not leaving any stone unturned in terms of preparation,” he explained.
