London: UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be asking people to work from home and impose new measures on pubs, bars and restaurants as the number of cases have been rapidly increasing recently in what is being called the second wave.
“We know this won’t be easy, but we must take further action to control the resurgence in cases of the virus and protect the NHS,” Johnson will be saying, according to excerpts of his remarks distributed by his Downing Street office.
Senior health experts have warned that Britain could face an exponentially growing death rate if action isn’t taken immediately.
UK is seeing 6,000 new cases a day, and hospital admissions are doubling every 8 days. The UK has also seen the 5th highest deaths in the world due to COVID-19.
Johnson is expected to order all pubs, bars, restaurants and other hospitality sites across England to start closing at 10 pm from Thursday.
Experts, however, have said the measures will not be as harsh as lockdown rules implemented back in March.
