New Delhi: With the single-day surge of 86,961 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally went past 54 lakh mark to stand at 54,87,581 on Monday.
About 1,130 more patients succumbed to infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed.
A total of 87,880 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 so far with the country reporting more than 1,000 deaths daily in a row for over a fortnight. India’s case fatality rate has, however, dropped to 1.60 per cent.
The death toll outdid the number of single-day surge in COVID-19 cases.
India occupies the top position in the world in terms of total recoveries as more than 43 lakh infected people have recovered. India’s recoveries constitute 19 per cent of total global recoveries, informed the ministry.
About 80.12 per cent (43,96,399) people have recovered from the infection so far with 93,356 being discharged on Sunday. Another 18.28 per cent (10,03,299) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,43,92,594 samples have been tested for COVID-19, which includes Sunday’s 7,31,534.
