London: The United Kingdom would begin the human trial for its COVID-19 vaccine candidate ton Thursday (April 23), said UK Health Minister, Matt Hancock while briefing the press on Tuesday.
The vaccine candidate, ‘ChAdOx1’ is developed by the researchers at the University of Oxford.
According to lead researcher Sarah Gilbert, the vaccine can work against the coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 and has an 80 per cent chance of success.
“The best way to defeat coronavirus is through a vaccine, after all this is a new disease, this is uncertain science, but I am certain we will throw everything we’ve got at developing a vaccine,” said Hancock.
Besides this, the UK government will provide 20 million pounds for the vaccine development projects in the country.
