Meanwhile, the 58 new deaths from 16 districts pushed the state’s overall COVID toll to 5.116 on Monday.

Khurda district reported the highest of 19 deaths, followed by 7 deaths in Bargarh, 5 in Ganjam, 4 in Balangir, 3 each in Balasore, Cuttack, Puri and Sambalpur, 2 each in Bhadrak, Angul and Kendrapada and one each in Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj districts.

With this, Khurda district so far has reported 916 deaths followed by Sundargarh (440), Ganjam (421), Cuttack (314), Puri (307), Bargarh (248), Angul (200), Kalahandi (192), Mayurbhanj (185), Balasore (159), Rayagada (152), Sambalpur (153), Nayagarh (139), Jharsuguda (137), Kendrapada (111) and Dhenkanal (102).

In a related development, the Health and Family Welfare Department has clarified that the list of deceased patients does not reflect the actual deaths occurring on a particular day.

This is because the list includes details of past deaths due to an audit process launched by the the state government. According to the audit process, a patient’s name is included in the list after confirmation that he/she died of COVID-19.
