Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday said the COVID-19 infection has reached a plateau in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Speaking to the media, Bijay Mohapatra, director, Health services said though the disease has not been totally contained, its severity has come down. It can be assessed from the fact that the rate of admission of COVID patients in hospitals have come down for the last 15 days. The number of patients on ventilator and in ICUs has witnessed a downward trend, he added.
He said 0.3% people are getting infected after taking the vaccination but the vaccinated people are not getting critical as the vaccine is strengthening the immune system. But, there are reports of those having comorbidity becoming serious, he added.
He assigned the factors responsible for the continuous spread of the disease to communication of asymptomatic people in buses and trains and violation of COVID norms.
However, Mohapatra said steps like declaring infected clustre areas as containment zone and and closure of shops and commercial complexes are being taken to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Stating that the government is all possible measures to fight the disease, he requested the people to cooperate in this regard by following COVID appropriate behaviour.
