COVID Infection Rate Among Children Spirals To 20% In Odisha; Active Cases Drops Below 7K

Bhubaneswar: A day after spiralling to 805, the daily COVID caseload in Odisha dropped below 700 on Monday again as 609 more people tested positive for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours. 

The state had seen 719, 754, 849 and 681 infections on September 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively.

Among them, 122 are in the age group of 0-18 years, which is 20 per cent of the new infections. The infection rate among children and adolescents was 16.27 per cent the previous day.

The test positivity rate, however, dropped to 0.93 per cent with these cases being detected from 65,268 samples sent for tests.

According to the I & PR department, 354 are from quarantine and 255 local contacts. Khurda registered the highest 118 new cases followed by 113 from Khurda. Nuapada, Boudh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal reported nil cases.

Odisha now has 6996 active cases while the infected tally stands at 1012167.
