COVID Runs Riot: 6-Day Lockdown In Delhi; Know Which States Have Imposed Similar Restrictions
New Delhi: Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government has decided to impose lockdown from 10 pm on Monday till 6 am the next Monday (April 26).
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that essential services, food services, medical services will continue. Weddings can be held with a gathering of only 50 people, passes will be issued separately for it. A detailed order will be issued shortly, he said.
Kejriwal said that the lockdown is necessary to reduce COVID cases. “We will improve the health system during this time,” he said.
In an appeal to migrant labourers, Kejriwal said: “I appeal to you with folded hands. It’s a small lockdown, only for 6 days. Don’t leave Delhi and go. I’m very hopeful that we won’t need to further extend the lockdown…The government will take care of you.”
Delhi has reported 23,500 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, India’s affected tally crossed 1.50 crore on Monday with a record single-day rise of 2,73,810 new coronavirus infections.
LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS IN OTHER SATES
The Rajasthan government has also announced 15-day lockdown, beginning Monday. It will continue till May 3.
Earlier, the Chandigarh administration had announced a weekend lockdown in the Union Territory from 10 pm on Friday till 5 am on Monday.
Similarly, A statewide lockdown is being enforced in Uttar Pradesh on Sundays. “There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday. Only sanitation, sanitisation and emergency services will operate during this period. Necessary awareness works should also be done in this regard,” The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.
All offices, except for businesses dealing in essential services, will remain closed on Sunday.
In Odisha, weekend shutdown is being imposed in urban areas of 10 districts, bordering Chhattishgarh and Jharkhand.
Chhattisgarh government had imposed lockdown in Sukma and Durg till April 19.
