Bhubaneswar: The COVID graph continued to fall in Odisha with 816 fresh infections being detected in the last 24 hours, taking the active cases tally to 8,271 on Friday (August 27).
The daily caseload had spiked to 887 on Thursday (August 26) after the preceding six days saw a consistent drop in infections- 625, 761, 853, 911, 986 and 1041 on Tuesday, Monday, Sunday, Saturday, Friday and Thursday (August 19) respectively, before dropping to 849 on August 26.
According to the I & PR department, 475 of the new cases are from quarantine and 341 are local contacts. Khurda (291) and Cuttack (116) contributed to almost 50 per cent of the new infections.
Four districts – Sonepur, Gajapati, Boudh and Nabarangpur – reported nil cases.
The infection rate among children and adolescents dropped from 15.31 per cent to 13 per cent with 106 more children testing positive for the virus since the previous day. A total of 1,496 in the 0-18 age group have tested positive for COVID since August 15, when the government started mapping the paediatric population in the state, while 33 have died due to the deadly disease during this period.
As many as 10 children with COVID have been hospitalised in Balasore district.

With these cases being detected from 69,585 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) rose to 1.22 per cent from 1.19 per cent the previous day.
Khurda district continues to be in the red zone with 3253 active cases while Cuttack with 1060 cases has moved to the orange zone from the green zone.
