Bhubaneswar: Veteran actor Uttam Mohanty, who is suffering from liver cirrhosis, was airlifted to Delhi on Saturday evening.
He was taken in an air ambulance for advanced treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after being transported to the airport in the state capital through a green corridor, sources said.
His wife and actress Aparajita and son Babushaan were also seen while he was being shifted to an ambulance at a private hospital here, where he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) for poor liver function.
The 66-year-old actor developed some health complications while shooting for ‘Bou Butu Bhoota’ outside Odisha and was admitted to the private hospital here three days ago. “The health condition of Odia film superstar Uttam Mohanty is critical. He is suffering from liver cirrhosis. His liver has failed functioning and he is on the ventilator support since yesterday,” the private hospital said in a statement earlier in the day.
Soon after news of his hospitalisation spread, fans, admirers and well-wishers expressed their support on social media platforms. The actor’s family has requested privacy during this challenging time.
Born and brought up in Baripada, Mohanty had made a foray into acting during his college days and acted in 135 Odia and 30 Bengali films. He won accolades for his stellar performance in Danda Balunga, Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta, Rajanigandha, Chaka Bhaunri, Daiba Daudi, Kanya Dana, Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi, Pua Mora Kala Thakura and Lakhe Shiba Puji Paichhi Pua among others. He also acted in a Hindi film Naya Zaher.
