Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said crop in around 1.75 lakh acre has been damaged by severe cyclone ‘Dana’.
Speaking to media persons after reviewing the loss due to the cyclone with high officials in the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) in Bhubaneswar, the chief minister said preliminary estimate of crop loss was pegged at 1,75,000 acre.
He said the final estimate of the loss in agriculture sector would be known after getting the detailed report. The government would decide on compensation to the farmers on the basis of the final report, he added.
Stating that around 8 lakh people were safely shifted to cyclone shelters, he said some of them have returned to their houses with permission.
While all roads have been cleared of trees felled during the cyclone, the works for restoration of power supply were going on. The power connection to 22.42 lakh houses were disconnected as a precautionary measure and of those, 14.8 lakh house have been restored power supply, Majhi said.
In health sector, he said as many as 2,200 pregnant women delivered babies during the cyclone in hospitals and the condition of all of them were stable.
