Malkangiri: CRPF Personnel shifted a pregnant woman to hospital by crossing a flooded river in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district bordering Malkangiri district of Odisha.
According to sources, amid incessant rain in Malkangiri and Bijapur districts over the last few days, a woman who was pregnant complained of labour pain. While the region was water-logged, locals sought help of jawans of a CRPF camp, sources said.
The CRPF personnel sprung into action and prepared a makeshift boat to cross the river. The woman was carefully seated on the boat and safely shifted a hospital on the other side of the flooded river, the sources added.
Rain continued to unleash its fury on Malkangiri and Bijapur districts on Monday. According to reports Bijapur received 85% excess rainfall so far, recording 943.2mm against the normal 511 mm. This falls under large excess category, Met sources said.
In Malkangiri district, as rainwater was flowing over bridges at MV-90, MV-96 and Kangrukonda, communication between Malkangiri and Kalimela, Motu and Andhra Pradesh was disrupted.
However, communication between Malkangiri town and Andhra Pradesh was restored today the morning. Similarly, communication to other places of the district was also restored.
A total of 153 people have been evacuated from Malkangiri and Kalimela and shifted to various shelter houses, sources added.
