Ayodhya: Gyanendra Pratap Singh, director general, CRPF, visited Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh to take stock of security arrangements at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Dham there. According to an official X post by the CRPF, the DG held key discussions with temple authorities to ensure seamless coordination for safeguarding this spiritually significant site.
Security in and around all important religious sites across the country is being reviewed after Operation Sindoor in which India caused severe damage to terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Over 100 terrorists were also killed in the strikes at the nine locations, including the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Both the LeT and JeM have threatened terror attacks in India in retaliation to the missile strikes on their hubs and launchpads. Intelligence reports suggest that important religious sites are among their targets. Ayodhya is of special importance as the Ram Temple there was built on the site where the Babri Masjid once existed.
It has been Pakistan’s continued effort to whip up communal frenzy in India by striking religious sites through terror attacks. Even while retaliating to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan targeted gurudwaras, churches and temples in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. It has also come to light that prominent locations like the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and the Golden Temple at Amritsar were among the targets of missiles and drones launched by Pakistan.
The CRPF is part of the three-layered security around the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. It is in charge of the main temple cordon, housing the sanctum sanctorum. In fact, the CRPF has been in charge of security at the Ram Janmabhoomi site since the early nineties.
