Bhubaneswar: In an exemplary act, the family of a CRPF jawan from Odisha has donated his heart and kidney following his death to save two patients’ lives.
According to sources, Krushna Chandra Mahabhoi was serving as havildar and posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Two years back, he suffered serious health complication and admitted to hospital.
Krushna underwent treatment for the two years but could not survive. Following his death, the doctors approached his family seeking permission for donating his viral organs. “Initially we were reluctant to allow the doctors to take out the organs from our father’s body. But our mother agreed and told us that my father devoted his life to the nation and safety of its people. On his death, providence has it that he will continue his noble work. So we agreed to the proposal,” said Krushna’s son.
After the family gave their consent, arrangements were made to bring out Krushna’s heart and kidney for transplantation. His body was brought to SUM Ultimate Hospital in Bhubaneswar for the purpose.
His heart will be transplanted in a patient in Kolkata and kidney in another patient in Mumbai. According to the doctors in the SUM Ultimate Hospital, both the patients are in desperate need for the organs for survival. “All arrangements have been made for the complicated surgery to retrieve the organs. Both the organs will be flown to Kolkata and Mumbai. The entire procedure has to be completed within 4 hours,” they added.
