New Delhi: To contribute to saving energy and do its bit for the environment, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has asked its staff to wear wrinkled clothes on Monday. The initiative, dubbed ‘Wrinkles Acche Hai,’ (WAH) has been started as a symbolic fight against climate change.

Officials at CSIR confirmed to India Today that an initiative has been introduced where the staff have been asked to wear non-ironed clothes. The new campaign was launched as part of the ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ from May 1-15.  As part of its broader endeavour to conserve energy, CSIR is instituting specific standard operating procedures aimed at reducing electricity consumption in all laboratories throughout the nation, with an initial objective of trimming workplace electricity expenses by 10 per cent. These SOPs are slated for implementation during the trial period of June-August 2024, according to the report.

India’s prominent R&D institution, CSIR has a network comprising 37 national laboratories. It supports 3521 active scientists alongside 4162 technical and support staff. CSIR overlooks research in oceanography, geophysics, and pharmaceuticals to genomics, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. Its comprehensive portfolio covers areas like mining, aeronautics, environmental engineering, and information technology.

According to officials, the new initiative is about making people aware of climate change and how the tiniest things can contribute in the global fight against it.
