Curfew Further Relaxed In Odisha’s Sambalpur
Sambalpur: With considerable improvement in the sitution in violence-hit Sambalpur, the district administration has further relaxed the curfew in the western Odisha city.
Curfew in hsd been relaxed by two more hours in the city. Relaxation will now be provided from 5 am to till 10 pm with effect from Tuesday, according to Sambalpur Collector Ananya Das.
Relaxation in the curfew, which had been imposed in the city following large scale violence and arson during Hanuman Mahotsav celebrations on April 12 and 14, was so far available from 5 am to 8 pm.
Internet services were fully restored on Sunday, while the administration had relaxed the curfew from 5 am to 8 pm in the violence-hit city.
Internet had been suspended since April 13 in the western Odisha city as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of inflammatory messages and fake messages amid the unrest.
It may be noted here that Sambalpur city had witnessed incidents of stone-throwing and group clash during a motorcycle rally on April 12 ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti. At least ten police personnel and several others were injured. Many vehicles were also damaged and some shops set on fire. Violence also rocked the city on April 14. The police have arrested around 100 people in connection with violence, sources said.
