Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly-constructed terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati here on Saturday.
Developed by Adani Airports Holdings Limited, the terminal has been built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, and is India’s first nature-themed airport terminal.
Bamboo and orchid-based patterns have been used in the design, reflecting regional elements.

Modi, who was shown around the new terminal, unveiled an 80-foot statue of late Gopinath Bordoloi – Assam’s first chief minister — outside the airport.
The new terminal will have a capacity of over 13 million passengers annually, making it the largest in the northeastern region.
According to officials, the total project cost is Rs 5,000 crore, including Rs 1,000 crore allocated for maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities.
Guwahati airport, which serves as a major aviation hub for northeast India, is also projected as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
In a post on X, PM Modi called it a “major boost to Assam’s infrastructure,” and wrote that increased capacity would improve living standards and support commerce and tourism.
