Dabugaon (Nabarangpur): The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dabugaon Police Station in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district has been placed under suspension just over a week after an accused died in custody.
The official order, issued by Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania on Saturday, states that the suspension has been imposed with immediate effect on charges of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
Majhi will also face a departmental disciplinary proceeding.
According to the order, action was taken in the interest of public service. Majhi will remain under the disciplinary control of the DIG of Police, South Western Range, Koraput during the suspension period. As per Rule 90 of Odisha Service Code, he will be entitled to Special Allowance and Dearness Allowance.
Purna Kalar, a resident of Anchala village under Medana panchayat, died in custody on April 29. Kalar had been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of a minor girl.
The deceased was found hanging inside the toilet of the Dabugaon PS, leading to questions over custodial safety and police conduct.
