Cuttack: Poverty is not an obstacle for city boy Aditya Moharana to add wings to his dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer.
A student of Class IX at Tulasipur Government High School, Aditya has used small objects to craft toy helicopters, boats, JCB machines, DJ chassis, motor cycles, scooters and cycles.
“My interest in making toys was developed after watching a toy making programme in Disney channel in 2019. Then I started making small toy vehicles out of cardboards. Watching YouTube channels, I have made a JCB machine with syringes,” the 14-year-old boy told a vernacular daily.
“I had also learned the technique of making toys and idols out of clay from my cousin three years ago,” he added.
A resident of Matha Sahi in Cuttack, Aditya said his family initially opposed his enthusiasm for making toys. “But after seeing the JCB machine, my father started supporting me,” he said.
Aditya’s father Bipin, who is an auto driver, now spends half of his income in purchasing materials for his son to craft toys.
“I have used brushless motor, servo motor, ESP, radar receiver and batteries to model five toy planes,” Aditya said.
The toy planes can fly up to a height of 800 metres for 20 minutes after being charged for two hours.
“I feel very happy after seeing Aditya’s creations. He wants to become an aeronautical engineer. As I am an auto driver, my income is not enough to fulfil his dream. Still, I will try,” said his father.
