Cuttack: An octogenarian woman here has become the talk of the town for making one of the most delicious Chakuli Pitha (steamed flat rice-based cake).
No wonder, there is always a crowd at Arnnapurna Sahu’s (85) shop at Nandi Sahi in Cuttack demanding her special Chakuli Pitha served with spicy chutney for Rs 5 per piece.
“This baked pitha has a unique taste. This is why I have been coming here for so many years,” said a customer.
Fondly known as Arnnapurna Mausi, she works all alone in the shop, from preparing batter to serving customers. The shop is open from 6 am to 11 pm.
Sharing the procedure of making Chakuli Pitha, she said, “It just takes three minute to bake. I make the chutney by using coriander, garlic and green chilly.”
Arnnapurna has been running the shop for the past 60 years to take care of her family after her husband’s death.
She had three sons, but one of them died earlier. The income of the other two is not enough to run the family. She also has two daughters who are married now.
“I would love to work till the last breath of my life,” said Arnnapurna, adding that she doesn’t want to be financially dependent on others.
