Cuttack’s Religious Sites To Pay User Fee For Social Events

Cuttack: To recover costs incurred by the civic body in cleaning garbage generated by religious organisations within its control, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to charge user fees from these institutions.

According to a CMC ruling, user fees will be collected from temples and other religious institutions that host social events like birthday celebrations, thread and ring ceremonies, marriage festivities, and other events, in accordance with the decision made at a special meeting of the corporators.

According to CMC sources, social gatherings, events, and performances are arranged at a number of the city’s temples and other religious buildings. Following the feasts, leftover dishes and glasses are thrown into the Mahanadi River and along the roadways, polluting the surrounding area.

A slab-based user charge for large, medium, and small religious institutions will soon be determined, according to a CMC official.
