Cyclone Asani: Know What SRC Says On Landfall & Impact On Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Asani, which is lying off Andhra Pradesh coast at present, is unlikely to have much impact on Odisha, said Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena on Wednesday.

On probably movement of the cyclone, Jena said it is likely to make landfall between Kakinada and Narsapur of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday night. Then it is likely to recurve and weaken into depression to move back to sea on Thursday morning, he added.

Earlier, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had said the system is likely to weaken into deep depression tonight, and further into depression by Thursday morning. Its impact will be maximum in four districts of Andhra Pradesh – Krishna, East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam.

However, Mohapatra said southern Odisha will experience wind speed upto 40-50 kmph as the cyclone would make the landfall. Fishermen should not to venture into the sea till May 12, he advised.
