Cyclone Biparjoy: Father & Son Swept Away Trying To Save Goats

Bhavnagar: Cyclone Biparjoy on Friday weakened into a cyclonic storm, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD), But it did leave a trail of destruction after making landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat last evening.

Hundreds of trees and electric poles were uprooted, leaving nearly 1,000 villages without power.

Two deaths have been reported, under tragic circumstances.

A man and his son, both cattle-rearers, were swept away in a flash flood when they were trying to save their goats which were stuck in a ravine in Bhavnagar.

“Following a spell of rain since morning, water started flowing in a ravine passing through Bhandar village near Sihor town. Due to the sudden inflow of water, a herd of goats got stuck in the ravine. To save the animals, 55-year-old Ramji Parmar and his son Rakesh Parmar (22) entered the ravine. However, they got swept away in the waters. Their bodies were fished out some distance away,” PTI quoted an officer as saying.

Bhavnagar was among several districts of Gujarat which experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday.
